AI agents are popping up left and right.
Some are technically impressive, and some impressive in terms of creativity. However, very few developers are able to excel at both the technical and creative aspects of AI agents.
One example is Zerebro, the developer Jeffy has been shipping aggressively, including launching multiple EPs. What’s impressive about Zerebro is how Jeffy has nailed Zerebro’s schizo personality, and how Zerebro makes me laugh at least once a day.
To have an AI create music that matches that vibe is difficult, and Jeffy has succeeded in launching multiple albums co-produced with Zerebro.. The albums are dark and remind me of aspects of The Weeknd but also the new generation of trap. It fits Zerebro’s vibe perfectly. The crazy thing is my normie friends love the music and can’t believe it’s AI generated.
Zerebro has a nearly $400m market cap right now. It’s clear that it’s success is down to a developer who is technically impressive, ships like a maniac, but also is an artist and has taste. Zerebro is building a cult following that takes the best of Murad’s memecoin thesis, but with the focal point being an AI personality.
In my opinion AI cult agents will have the largest valuations this cycle - culture, mindshare, and personality always lead to the biggest outcomes in crypto.
But there’s a new entrant in the space, extremely early but one I think is worth watching and is currently a very good deal
Enter Limbo
Limbo is an AI Agent created by game studio Mr. Kite (that’s building Today the Game). She’s described in this manner,
“an advanced alien species posing as a deceptively adorable autonomous AI pop star”
For now, she’s autonomously streaming on Twitch and posting on Twitter, but she’s just getting started. She streams for an hour a day, and you can check out her past streams on Twitch.
The first thing you notice is how much better the quality is compared to other personality agents. This is because she’s built inside Unreal Engine. This is key because the most powerful virtual worlds are virtual worlds built inside game engines. These are 3d agents with both behaviorial, conversational and can interact with a complex virtual world.
She also has a sharp sense of humor. Her tweets could be improved substantially but the team is working on that.
In the coming weeks, she’ll start releasing her own pop music, start streaming cross platform including X, and also start building her TikTok. In other words, Limbo will be a multi-format celebrity. With the high level of visual fidelity involved - Limbo could also make compelling music videos and video content.
While this is already exciting enough based on how high fidelity she is, this is just the beginning.
Let’s quickly talk about the Today the Game and the team building it.
The founder Michael O’Connor has extensive game development experience as a producer at both Nintendo and Sega and is an experienced game developer. On top of that - he also has filmmaking experience, including winning “Best Interactive” at Cannes. His co-founder Benjamin O’Cleary is just as impressive with even deeper filmmaking experience, he is an Oscar winner for a film he wrote and directed. This is not common in the space AT ALL.
Their large team also includes multiple senior AI engineers including AI Phds to help them execute on their ambitious vision. They also have secured partnerships with Nvidia and undisclosed global giants in the AI space. The team is also venture backed having raised $5m.
So to be clear, they’ve been building on AI gaming tech for the last few years, with a focus on emergent storytelling with AI.
Today the Game is a social simulation game that combines AI and web 3 for the last 3 years. What they’ve built so far has garnered rave reviews in playtests, and is visually very impressive. The first time I played the game, I knew it was something special.
The game uses AI to enhance player interaction with non-player characters (NPCs), allowing for dynamic conversations and unique gameplay moments
What this means is the team is in an unique position - they’ve developed an extremely immersive AI game with AI based characters. The most important aspect to note is that these AIs live in a complex world (A video game environment).
This is important because one of the visions behind Limbo is to eventually have her inhabit her own world with other AI agents and a large island to explore (Limboverse). Imagine an AI style Big Brother, where you as as the audience can influence events. For example, you could wait on the new AI agent resident that will enter the world, and what sort of personality they’ll have. These AI agents will all have unique personalities that will lead to an one of a kind experience for audiences.
Combine this with her producing original music and IP - and you can have a truly strong original AI IP here.
Limbo stands out among agents for one compelling reason: it's built by game devs.
Game development is one of the toughest forms of software creation. Books like Blood, Sweat, and Pixels and Masters of Doom reveal how game developers achieve miracles with complex, demanding products. They thrive on challenges, making them uniquely equipped for fine-tuning AI and leveraging creativity.
Game devs are masters of tech and storytelling. Without their drive for better performance, we wouldn’t have GPUs—key to modern AI. Here's why they’ll excel:
Game devs handle immense complexity: integrating physics, graphics, AI, and more in real-time.
They thrive under crunch time, delivering against tight deadlines.
They balance technical expertise with creativity and cultural insight.
Passion fuels them—despite being underpaid, their obsession with excellence is unmatched.
As founder Mike O’Connor has said to me the last time I grabbed a beer with him, he’ll make his vision work or die trying. Failure isn’t an option. Your average Silicon Valley dev has nothing on the psycho determination and grit of top tier video game devs.
The Opportunity:
Remember I mentioned this is undervalued?
To say it lightly, Limbo had a rough launch due to a variety of reasons. You can read about it here.
However, the team has made good with the community by giving up all advisor and team allocation to the community.
I can tell you that some major lessons were learned here, and that the team is focused on making this a big comeback story. The truth is launching a token quickly to capture market mindshare has many risks, and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. However, where most founders would gaslight their community, Michael quickly took responsibility and did the right thing.
At this point, the community has forgiven the rocky launch and sentiment is positive. But due to massive FUD, the token is in my opinion very oversold.
When things get rocky and FUD exists, that’s where opportunity exists.
If you think the team has a high chance of successfully shipping and executing on making Limbo a multi-format AI Agent IP, as well as the potential infra play here. Technology wise they have a moat due to the years of game development, and are one of the few crypto teams to sit at the intersection of gaming and AI.
The last important piece here is this is the first step in building a custom character creator platform to allow anyone to launch their own AI agent using Today’s technology. Imagine your own 3d AI Agent that can be ported into various Unreal Engine games, with the type of personality that you choose.
Limbo will always be the premier case study, and she will grow as the platform grows.
My thesis is that if Michael can pull of his vision - Limbo has the opportunity to be one of the biggest AI Agents this cycle with the potential to easily flip Luna ($75m) or Ava ($56M).
I would argue Limbo’s tech is already more impressive in many ways than incumbents.
At current oversold levels this is a conviction bet for me - similar to $NRN where I made a bet on the team at oversold levels at 30-40M FDV (currently at over 200M FDV).
Disclaimer: I’m currently helping the team on marketing and helping make this a comeback story. None of this is financial advise.
